The inception of Pephands' Pain and Palliative Care initiative, Pephands Cares, is deeply rooted in a heartwarming journey led by our CEO, Kishar Ahmed. His journey into the world of palliative care began with a pivotal event that forever changed our foundation's mission and vision.
Kishar's passion for palliative care was ignited at the "Curious Palliative Care Event" hosted by the Institute of Palliative Care (IPM). This event was a turning point for us, as we were deeply moved by the extraordinary work being done at IPM. The dedication and compassion of Dr. Suresh, the Director of IPM and the WHO Collaborating Center for Community Participation in Palliative Care and Long-Term Care (LTC), left an indelible mark on our hearts. His visionary approach and unwavering commitment to palliative care were nothing short of inspiring.
During the event, we had the privilege of meeting Mr. Shameer, a remarkable individual who had experienced palliative care firsthand and dedicated his life to helping others through his services. His compassion and dedication led us to the Thanal Foundation, where we witnessed the true spirit of homecare in palliative care. Our visit to Thanal Foundation allowed us to observe homecare sessions up close, and we were deeply touched by the profound impact of palliative care at the grassroots level. The tears of gratitude and smiles of relief on the faces of beneficiaries, despite their immense hardships, spoke volumes about the importance of this work.
Our respect for the pioneers of palliative care grew as we learned about Dr. Idris, the founder of Thanal Foundation, and his tireless efforts to provide compassionate care. We were equally inspired by the remarkable activities and initiatives of Dr. C.K. Vinod of Daya Pain and Palliative Care. Their dedication fueled our determination to make a difference.
Returning to Chennai, our hearts were filled with a renewed sense of purpose. Driven by the experiences and lessons we had gathered, Pephands Foundation decided to launch Pephands Palliative Care as a vital branch of our organization. We began our activities at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children (ICH) in Egmore, Chennai, focusing on providing palliative care for children affected by cancer. Our efforts include offering nutritious food and engaging activities to keep these children happy and energetic, helping them find moments of joy and strength amidst their battles.
In addition to our work at ICH, we initiated volunteer home care and nursing home care services in and around Chennai. Our mission is to bring comfort, care, and dignity to those nearing the end of life, ensuring that no one faces their final days alone or in pain.
On May 29, 2024, Pephands hosted the "Neesathai Nadu" event at Quiade Milleth College for Men in Medavakkam, Chennai. This heartwarming one-day event was designed to enrich the lives of palliative care patients, including the impaired, elderly, and stroke survivors, along with their families. The event featured personalized preparations, free health check-ups, healthy snacks, dance performances, art therapy, games, and shared meals, creating a vibrant atmosphere of joy and community.
The event also highlighted the contributions of dedicated volunteers and honored special guests like Mr. Junior MG Ramachandran, who served food to attendees, enhancing the dignity and warmth of the occasion. The "Neesathai Nadu" event was a promise to continue bringing joy, care, and hope to those who need it most, embodying Pephands' mission of compassionate palliative care.
As we continue our journey, we are excited to announce the upcoming Pephands Udan Carnival, scheduled for August 3, 2024 in Thai Sathya Matriculation School . it is a celebration of hope, humanity, and the indomitable spirit of our beneficiaries. The carnival will feature a range of activities, performances, and stalls, all aimed at raising awareness and funds for our palliative care initiatives. It will be a day of joy, compassion, and community, bringing together people from all walks of life to support a noble cause.
Pephands' Pain and Palliative Care initiative is a testament to the power of compassion and the impact that dedicated individuals and organizations can have on the lives of others. We are committed to continuing this journey, inspired by the incredible people we have met and the stories we have witnessed, to make a meaningful difference in the world of palliative care. Join us at the Pephands Udan Carnival and be a part of this transformative journey, as we bring comfort, care, and hope to those who need it the most.
